The situation before Quinyx
ABB’s Vaasa factory provides industry-relevant jobs to students who require flexible working hours to accommodate their studies. Previously, shift planning relied on manual processes, requiring production and logistics interns to individually contact their supervisors whenever they wanted to work during the winter season. Conversely, supervisors needed to actively reach out to potential workers to fill shifts. This manual approach was labor-intensive and resulted in shifts being assigned randomly, without clear oversight or transparency.
The factory sought a modern shift scheduling solution that would simplify this process. The new system needed to empower hourly employees to easily view and book available shifts independently. It also needed functionality to facilitate shift swapping between employees, along with straightforward reporting of availability and absences directly from mobile devices.
