Employees forget to punch in and out of their shifts. It happens. Sometimes it’s because they’re in such a rush. Other times it’s because they’ve got a million and one other things on their minds.

Either way, most of the time it’s simple human error rather than anything deliberate.  Yet, punching in and out at the right time is just as important for your employees as it is for you.

That’s why we’ve improved our Time & Attendance solutions, enabling  managers to turn on notifications on the mobile app or through email when their employees have missed their punches - in similar fashion as employees already do.

Why this update is important

Punches are crucial for hourly workers. Their punches mark when their shift has begun and ended and, to a degree, determines what their paycheck will eventually look like. For the business, punches are of significant importance not only for payroll but also to get a better understanding of their daily operations. Punches create greater transparency on labor costs, actual hours worked, and attendance and absence.

The reality is that punches sometimes don’t happen at the start or end of a scheduled shift. Managers want to know when this happens, but they aren’t always present on the ‘floor’. This makes it difficult to physically see if their employees have just forgotten to punch in or aren’t present at all.

For this reason, we’ve updated our Time & Attendance functionality to enable managers to receive a push notification and/or an email when a punch is missed at the start or end of a scheduled shift.

What is included in the latest update

With our latest update, you can customize your notification settings to your liking in the settings tab in the mobile app. More specifically, you can:

  • Receive a push notification in the mobile app and/or email every time an employee has a punch that has gone over the shift’s end time and/or a shift that has started without the employee being punched in.
  • State how many minutes after the shift time begins and/or ends should trigger a notification.
  • Select specific units you want to receive triggers from. By default all units under your management are enabled.
  • Select specific shift types you want to receive triggers from. By default all shifts you are manager of are enabled.

These missed punch notifications are another step in making life easier for managers, keeping payroll in check and creating greater transparency in the whereabouts of your scheduled employees and the costs involved.
